Atoms · An Obsidian plugin

You wrote it down.
You never found it again.

Atoms turns the notes you already take into something you can ask.

No subscription needed. Bring your own Anthropic key and pay only for what you use.

A note you cannot find again is a note you did not take.

Atoms is the whole loop: a thought goes in, in five seconds, and comes back the moment it matters.

How it works

You only do the first step.

  1. Catch it in five seconds

Atoms installs a shortcut on your iPhone. Run it from your home screen, the share sheet, or Siri, and say the thought out loud instead of typing it. It lands in today's daily note before you have put your phone down.

On a desktop, type a line. Either way, nothing new to learn and nowhere new to put it.

  2. Come back and it is sorted

Yesterday's captures become notes with a real title and links to what they relate to. Let it happen on its own each time you open Obsidian, or keep it to one tap.

  3. Now you can find it

Ask for it, or let it come back to you. Both are below.

Your daily note

- sam stopped at the tulip stand again, she loves the yellow ones
- pick up milk

What Atoms makes

Sam loves yellow tulips
sam stopped at the tulip stand again, she loves the yellow ones

Linked to Sam and Gift ideas.

Your original line is never touched, and the text is copied across word for word. The milk? It becomes nothing. Atoms is not a reminders app, so errands stay in your daily note and out of your library.

Your daily note

- priya said budget approvals freeze after their fiscal year closes in november
- reply to the invoice email

What Atoms makes

Priya's budget freezes in November
priya said budget approvals freeze after their fiscal year closes in november

Linked to Priya and Acme pitch.

Your original line is never touched, and the text is copied across word for word. The invoice email? It becomes nothing. Atoms is not a task manager, so to-dos stay in your daily note and out of your library.

Your daily note

- skipped lunch again and the 3pm meeting still went sideways
- call the dentist

What Atoms makes

Skipping lunch wrecks my afternoons
skipped lunch again and the 3pm meeting still went sideways

Linked to Energy and Meetings.

Your original line is never touched, and the text is copied across word for word. The dentist? It becomes nothing. Atoms is not a task manager, so to-dos stay in your daily note and out of your library.

When you go looking

Ask from Claude or ChatGPT

Atoms plugs into the chat window you already have open, so your own notes become something you can question.

  • It reads the library, not the pile. Every note it looks at already has a real title, tags, and links. That is why the answers are any good. Pointing a chatbot at raw daily pages does not work.
  • Ask for it. It finds your notes by title, tags, and text, then quotes them back with a link to the original.
  • Follow the thread. Your notes form a graph, and it walks the links. The gift question finds the tulip note because both point at Sam.
  • Follow the thread. Your notes form a graph, and it walks the links. The pitch question finds the budget note because both point at Priya.
  • Follow the thread. Your notes form a graph, and it walks the links. The afternoon question finds the lunch note because both point at Energy.
  • Add without leaving chat. Tell it to remember something and it queues a new note for your vault. It lands next time Obsidian is open.
  • Change your mind safely. A revision becomes a new note linked to the old one. It never overwrites you.

And the next time you ask for gift ideas, it knows about the poetry section too.

And the next pitch answer knows to keep the slides big.

And the next time you ask when to do deep work, it knows.

Matching is on the words you actually wrote, not a semantic model. Your daily notes and the rest of your vault are never sent, only the notes Atoms filed. Connector URL for Plus: https://plus.tryatoms.app/mcp

When you are not looking

Sometimes it finds you

Open Atoms and it may hand you one thing you had forgotten.

  • Mind change. Two notes where you came to disagree with yourself, side by side, with the dates.
  • Also about Sam. Write something new about someone and an older note about them comes back.
  • Also about Priya. Write something new about someone and an older note about them comes back.
  • Also about Energy. Write something new on a theme and an older note about it comes back.
  • On this day. Something you wrote on this date a year ago.
  • One card, then done. Tap to open it, or ask for another. The same memory will not return for a week.

It is the second brain that shows you when you changed your mind.

Only while you have Atoms open. No notifications, no reminders, no review queue, and nothing is ever due. If you do not open Atoms, nothing happens.

People

It notices who matters

Patterns

It notices what repeats

Keep writing about the same thing and Atoms gathers the thread without being asked. No folder was ever created for it, and no tag was ever typed.

Write about Sam a few times and Atoms offers to make a page where everything about Sam lives. One tap, and every note that mentioned Sam gets linked to it, including the ones from months ago. Say no and it stays quiet for two weeks.

Write about Priya a few times and Atoms offers to make a page where everything about Priya lives. One tap, and every note that mentioned Priya gets linked to it, including the ones from months ago. Say no and it stays quiet for two weeks.

The shape of it

A little web of your life

Every link above is real structure. Atoms can open your library as a graph: your notes and what they point at, not the whole vault hairball.

Starting out

Bring the notes you already have

You do not have to wait a year to get there. Atoms can read every past daily note in one pass and build the library out of the history you already wrote.

  • One pass, bulk rate. A catch-up runs as a batch job at about half the usual cost, on a cheaper model chosen for volume.
  • You see the bill first. It counts the real tokens in your vault and shows you the range. Nothing is spent until you confirm.
  • Safe to re-run. Anything already filed is skipped, so a catch-up can be stopped and started again without doing the work, or the spending, twice.

Catch-up runs on your own Anthropic API key, which you can add in Settings whether or not you are on Plus. The figure shown is an estimate from public rates, not a quote.

What stays true

  • See it before it writes. Preview shows the exact notes, links, and markers Process would create. Nothing touches your vault until you say so.
  • Your words, unchanged. Only the title, tags, and links are written for you. A half-formed hunch stays half-formed instead of becoming confident-sounding prose.
  • Links, not folders. Nothing gets filed away somewhere you have to remember.
  • Leaving is easy. Cancel Plus or uninstall the plugin entirely and every atom is still there, still linked, still searchable. They were always just markdown in your vault. With your own key, filing keeps working, at Anthropic's usage cost and nothing to us.
  • Not a task app. No due dates, no checklists, no backlog filling up behind you.

Pricing

Atoms Plus

$6 per month

$60 per year · save two months

No API key to set up, on any device. Asking from Claude and ChatGPT is included. 14 day free trial.

Your Own Key

You pay Anthropic for what you use.

Add your Anthropic API key in Settings and Atoms works. You are billed by Anthropic for the filing you actually do. Asking from chat is hosted, so it is Plus, or self host it yourself.

Install

Get Atoms

Atoms is not in the plugin directory yet, so it goes through BRAT.

  1. Install BRAT from Obsidian's community plugins.
  2. Add the beta plugin taihartman/obsidian-atoms.
  3. Enable Atoms.
  4. Open Settings → Atoms and add your key, or start a trial.

Rather read the code first? It is all on GitHub.

Privacy

Where your notes go

  • Processing sends capture text to Anthropic. That is how the sorting works. On Plus it goes under our account, on your own key it goes under yours.
  • We do not train on your notes.
  • Asking from chat is opt in. Nothing leaves your vault until you turn it on, and then only your atoms folder. It goes one direction only, and never writes back over a note.

The whole story is on the Privacy page.
